ED RENDELL ENDORSES “DREAM TICKET”
WASHINGTON, DC--Pennsylvania Governor Edward G. Rendell today endorsed a Democratic unity “dream ticket” with both Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.
“If Senator Obama becomes our nominee and he wants Clinton -- someone to carry the Clinton banner, there's no question in my mind they should ask Hillary Clinton to be that candidate,” Rendell said on CNN, responding to a question about whether he would accept an offer to be Obama’s running mate.
“I don't know whether she would accept. I don't know whether he would do it. But don't settle for someone -- a Clinton supporter. You've got the real thing, someone who has energized voters.”
Video of Rendell’s endorsement is available here http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/politics/2008/05/14/intv.rendell.clinton.cnn, and a transcript of the interview is available here http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0805/14/ltm.02.html.
Rendell, the governor of a must-win state, joins the growing ranks of prominent Democrats supporting a unity ticket with both Obama and Clinton. This week, former New York Governor Mario M. Cuomo and Senator Charles E. Schumer said that Senators Obama and Clinton endorsed the “dream ticket.” Last Tuesday, Democratic Leadership Council chairman and former Tennessee congressman Harold Ford, Jr. endorsed a unity ticket, saying, “I think it's something that this party is going to have to think very seriously about in the next few weeks.”
