SCHUMER: OBAMA-CLINTON “A STRONG TICKET TOGETHER”
NEW YORK, NY--Senator Charles E. Schumer spoke about the strength of an Obama-Clinton “dream ticket” at a Crain’s breakfast in New York City.
“Hillary and Barack have both run very strong and great races, and I think they’d be a strong ticket together,” said Schumer, speaking from the Grand Hyatt in Manhattan.
Senator Schumer joins the ranks of prominent Democrats supporting a unity ticket with both Obama and Clinton. Last Tuesday, Democratic Leadership Council chairman and former Tennessee congressman Harold E. Ford, Jr. endorsed a unity ticket on MSNBC, saying, “I think it's something that this party is going to have to think very seriously about in the next few weeks.”
Senator Barack Obama late last week opened the door to picking Clinton as a running mate. “There's no doubt that she's qualified to be vice president, there's no doubt she's qualified to be president,” Obama said to NBC News. He later told CNN, “She is tireless, she is smart. She is capable. And so obviously she'd be on anybody's short list to be a potential vice presidential candidate.”
